5 Mini Kitchen Makeover Ideas

In the market for a kitchen refresh, but not ready to splurge on a full renovation? Start small! We’ve rounded up our 5 mini kitchen makeover ideas that make a big difference with a small budget.

Vista Splashback

For a quick update it’s tempting to go for a temporary wallpaper, but a Vista splashback is easier to apply, much more practical and can also be taken down and replaced when you’re ready for another update. Vista splashbacks come in a range of options including classic subway, vintage effect and bold, bright contemporary patterns – so they look fabulous, but because they’re made in acrylic and MDF, they don’t require grouting or pasting, are super hygienic and won’t start peeling off when things heat up in the kitchen!

Paint Cabinets

Replacing kitchen cabinets takes you from quick kitchen revamp to expensive renovation in the blink of an eye. Our advice? Paint them! Painting kitchen cupboards is a cheap and cheerful way to perk up your kitchen and a great way to upcycle what you already have. This year’s must-have cabinet colours are rich navy, hunter green and dusky pink but you could also pick out a bold colour that complements your patterned Vista splashback. Don’t forget to scrub and sand first, for a professional smooth finish.

Worktops are such a big part of the kitchen, the fastest way to update your look is to change the kitchen worktop. The right kitchen worksurface can make or break your interior vibe – you can choose wood effect laminate with Bushboard Omega for a vintage country feel, a faux marble worktop for a luxe finish with Options, or a stone look worktop from our Evolve range that feels great as part of an industrial vibe. With a huge range of design choices now available in laminate, replacing a worktop needn’t be expensive or difficult, and since it draws your eye all around the room, it’s a good investment piece if you’re looking make an impact by renovating a kitchen on a budget. Take it to the next level by adding an upstand in the same finish, or matching splashbacks behind the sink and hob.

If you want your kitchen to feel fresh but you’re not ready to commit to a new kitchen worktop or patterned splashback, why not try a whole new way of accessorising? Choose new hardware like drawer pulls and door handles in a new style, hang a new light fixture, splash out on a new tap, or create a gallery wall of your favourite family photos. For extra style points, we’d do all three in matching metals: the top trends for 2019 are brass and gold.

Open Shelving

If you’re replacing your worktop with Bushboard Evolve, adding open shelving is an easy, instant update that adds interest as well as extra kitchen storage space. Evolve worktops are super slim at just 12.5mm thick, and they’re double sided so they look great on the wall as an open shelving solution that perfectly matches the rest of your kitchen surfaces. Thanks to the versaitility of Evolve, shelves can be cut on-site by your worktop fitter to any size and length you choose.
