Bushboard News: Bushboard's laminate upstands
Bushboard laminate upstands finish off the job nicely
For a neat and practical solution when fitting laminate worktops, Bushboard offer a range of laminate upstands that complement their worksurfaces. They give an appealing modern look that adds a higher perceived design value to the kitchen, while being incredibly quick and easy to fit.
Bushboard’s laminate upstands are available in 20 x 100 x 3000mm lengths which can be fitted using basic joinery skills. Simple cutting and basic mitre joints are all that is required. The upstands are set in place with a dab of adhesive at intervals and jointed with a bead of silicone between the worksurface and upstand giving a durable, water resistant seal. The company offers a complementary set of colour-matched adhesives for this purpose called Bushboard Complete.
Kitchen installations can be rapidly speeded up because there is no need to spend time being super-accurate in scribing the worktop to the back wall. The laminate upstand does a neat cover up job thanks to its 20mm thickness that can cater for cutting tolerances. Instead of time and money spent on tiling, the alternative approach of installing an upstand and painting the remaining wall area gives a speedy and attractive solution that is very easy maintenance compared to tiles.
Upstands are especially advantageous for refurbishment projects when just the worktop is being replaced. Once the worktop is pulled out, it often leaves a raggy edge on the wall where the adhesive has pulled off the plaster. The 100mm height of the upstand offers ample scope to conceal any unsightly areas and provide a tidy solution. The same advantages of easy access and low cost maintenance apply for any future remedial work or design upgrades to the worktop.
Says Neil Horton, Commercial Director:
“Upstands are a real boon for the building and social housing market because they speed up and simplify things, while being stylish and cost effective. In new build you can simply add an upstand, paint the wall and there’s no need for tiling. Or in cases of refurbishment, where there is an existing tiled back wall, an upstand gets over the problem of what to do with the unsightly gap that is left once the old worktop has been ripped out.”
More than 30 different designs are available across the Prima and Omega 40mm and Odyssey 30mm laminate worksurface ranges. Manufactured from a chipboard core and surfaced with hard wearing high pressure laminate, they feature an 8mm postformed radius.
